first step

Went to New York to meet with MMG yesterday, and my, the trip was tiring. The ride there and back took at least 10 hours. Yeah, follow me, 10 hours. Lucky for us we were able to hop back on the 4pm bus back to DC instead of 6, or God knows when we’d get back.

The interview itself went alright. The talent manager was really nice, but she wasn’t too impressed with the photos I took for IPOP. Tell me about it, only people with crap stuck in their eyes would think those photos were nice. I mean, the photographer was ok, but the makeup artist should be hung upside down and smacked. Seriously, she was so bad, I remember my mom laughing when she saw my makeup. Yeah, that bad.

Good thing I didn’t listen to my modeling instructor and still brought my glamour shots from Taiwan. Kate (the talent manager) loved them. But she said that those weren’t enough, and now I needed to take some more photos for my comp card and headshot. Crap, and I spent so much money on those ugly-ass ones for IPOP. Argafah. She recommended a great (but REALLY expensive) photographer and showed us some photos she did. Also, she printed out a 2 year contract and let me take it home to look over and sign before mailing it back.

Basically, the whole thing went well, but we had to pay almost $2000 for the photoshoop, comp card, headshots, and web book maintenance. That shocked me a bit at first. They also take a 20% commission, which was more than what the JRP intructors had mentioned. Of course, I started having doubts, so all I could do was pray about it. I prayed that God give me a sign, that if this agency was right, then they’d allow me to leave the SSN field on the contract blank. If not, then this agency isn’t right for me. So I emailed Kate about this, and she said it was fine. We were also able to reschedule the photoshoot from a Sunday to a Monday, which is great because now we won’t have to miss church. Of course, just because I have an agent doesn’t mean I have a job. I’m still worried about this, and will continue to pray for God’s guidance. But all in all, praise the Lord for being ever faithful and loving!

I can finally drive

One of the greatest things that’s been bothering me lately has been my issues with getting my learner’s permit at the MVA. Forgive me God for saying this, but the people there have seriosly got sticks up their butts. Like what the hell is up with their attitude?! Man, I would have bitch slapped them with my purse the last 2 times had my mom not been there to stop me. And the people who answer your emails aren’t any better. They kept telling me to look at their website for more information, and then tell me things that contradict with their site. Like, wtf?

In the end, I just gave up on trying to find more primary sources and decided to wait for my ssn. However, without my permit, my mom refused to let me get into the driver’s seat. It wasn’t until I persuaded her let me just practice in the parking lot and the pastor said it was ok (she had to ask our pastor before letting me…lol). I have been praying for a while about this issue, and I guess this is God’s answer. In a way, it actually works. :33

We went to the parking lot at our church, and luckily, it was empty. At first I had a little trouble with the shift control, but it turned out that I didn’t step down completely on the brakes. Driving was scarier than I thought. The car actually moved without me stepping on the accelerator! I kept spazzing while trying to drive around the islands, and at first I turned to slowly and forgot to brake, so I drove onto the curb and almost hit the metal pole. It got better afterwards, but I still had trouble parking. Ah well, it is my first time, and for the first time, I think I did alright. :)

Project Runway

Just finished watching the first episode of Project Runway season 3, and I’m a bit sad that Stacey was eliminated the first round. I actually liked the whole concept of her design, but it’s really sad that she didn’t know how to use a sewing machine and had to hand sew everything, thus rushing and not paying attention to the small details.
Seriously, Vincent should have been eliminated instead. I know that the challenge is about innovation, but that hat just screams TACKY. *vomits* I’d cry if I ever had to wear something so ugly. ;_; This design was nice, but it didn’t look to great on the model. The top half was too big on her and there was this huge gab between the cloth and her chest, I thought her boobs might have fallen out or something.

I also liked Laura and Keith’s designs. Very classy and stylish. Like, I could actually picture people wearing that down the runway, or even in real life. Malan’s outfit was also nice. It’s something I could definitely see being sold in stores and worn by people. Oh and did you know that he’s born in Taiwan too? He gets cookies and my support for that! *hearts*

Audrey’s baby!

I was very surprised when I went to church today and learned that Audrey was in labor. They told us that they baby wasn’t due until the 24th, and George had said he hoped it would come on the 21st, but wow, the 16th? But it’s all good, and though there were some complications, the delivery was successful (c-section), and Grace was born at 12:05pm. :D

The youth made some plans to go see Audrey and the baby after church, but Gwen and Eric were saying how they didn’t want to because Audrey might be tired and they didn’t want to bother her. I agreed with them, but in the end, I gave in and went. When they saw me go, they were like “…whatever, let’s go!”, and it was funny, because there was only one seat left in Andrew’s car, and John already left. So Eric was like, save a seat for me, but Gwen just opened the door and got in, and Eric stood there like “wtf?!”. So John had to drive back and take Eric.

So we get to the hospital, and we had to wait a while before we saw the baby, but oh my gosh, she was adorable! She was so small and cute, but we couldn’t really see her face the first time. It was hilarious when Isaac went to see her, because he didn’t know which one she was, so they were pointing in one direction, and Isaac looked, and he freaked out because that baby was black! He told us later that he thought something had gone wrong, and it was just priceless.

We also got to go see Audrey, and she looked really exhausted. She told us she had been in the hospital since 12am this morning. Wow…12 hours. Man, the stuff mothers had to go through to give birth…

Aspirin Mask

I finally finished my new theme for wordpress. I actually enjoyed making the header image, but coding it was INSANE. The dang thing is so complicated, and in the end, I just did whatever and uploaded it. Looks alright, but it could have been better. I was never much of a patient person.

I’ll be working on the pages soon, and will be adding articles as time goes on. I do have a beauty related one that I found on MakeupAlley. It’s about aspirin mask/scrub, and I will definitely give it a try when our house stocks up on aspirin.

Ingredients: 2 aspirin; water

Directions: Take two aspirin (it doesn’t matter which kind/brand) and place them in the cap of the aspirin bottle. Apply ONE drop of water onto each tablet and let sit for a minute. By touching them with your finger, you will notice that they will crumble into a gritty powder. Scoop up some of the “powder” onto your finger and rub it onto your face. Continue until you have used up all of the aspirin powder. Let sit on your face for ten minutes, then wash off with water in small, circular motions.

Review: It felt grainy and was hard to apply. The amount wasn’t nearly enough for my face, or maybe I just have too much area to cover (fat face? lol). Either way, it didn’t feel pleasant at all while it sat there. I washed it off after 10 minutes, and I noticed nothing special. My face still felt the same, except maybe a tad smoother since the graininess of the mask worked somewhat like a scrub. Cheap? Yes. Effective? No, not really. Worth it? You decide.
